Stumble, stumble. stumble

This is really cool. You could get a whole bunch of different bottles and different colored lights.

DIY: Wine Bottle Light

November 3rd, 2009
Wine light bottle
This past spring Daniel and I went on a road trip from San Francisco to the Grand Canyon. Along the way we stopped at Chateau Julien for a wine tasting. I wanted to do something with the empty bottle instead of throwing it in the recycling bin. So here it is!
You’ll need:
wine bottle light supplies
an empty wine bottle
a drill
safety glasses and gloves (just in case the bottle breaks)
1/2″ glass drill bit
masking tape
short strand of Christmas lights (with a plug only on one end)

How to:
1. Rinse out your wine bottle and remove the labels (if desired).
2. Place a piece of masking tape on the bottle where you want to drill the hole for the cord. The tape keeps the drill bit from slipping.
3. Put on your gloves and goggles and start drilling. Don’t apply too much pressure or you could break the glass. The drilling takes a long time. I spent about 30 minutes drilling the hole. Be patient!

4. Once your hole is drilled rinse the glass shavings out of your bottle, and let the bottle dry.
5. Carefully feed the strand of Christmas lights into the hole you drilled.
6. TaaDaa!

Enviormental Lettering

More stumbling but this is really cool. Axel Peemoeller did this work for the Eureka Carpark. Everything can be read perfectly when standing in the right spot.

I have been stumbling again

Creative bus stop advertisements

A great way to gain exposure for your product or service is to advertise at bus stops. People have to wait until the bus arrives and do not have too much to do besides waiting. But also drivers and pedestrians get attracted by bus stop advertisements.

This month I have selected the most creative bus stop advertisements that make you look twice! View all bus stop advertisements after the jump.

Megan's Brain Test

I took Megan's Quiz and go figure mine would basically even.

Thank you for taking the Creativity Test. The results show your brain dominance as being:

Left BrainRight Brain
49%51%

You are more right-brained than left-brained. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the "whole" picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the "whole" picture. Your thought process can appear quite illogical and meandering. The problem-solving techniques that you use involve free association, which is often very innovative and creative. The routes taken to arrive at your conclusions are completely opposite to what a left-brained person would be accustomed. You probably find it easy to express yourself using art, dance, or music. Some occupations usually held by a right-brained person are forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist.

Your complete evaluation follows below:

Your left brain/right brain percentage was calculated by combining the individual scores of each half's sub-categories. They are as follows:
Your Left Brain Percentages
  54%Reality-based (Your most dominant characteristic)
  42%Symbolic
  34%Verbal
  22%Linear
  18%Sequential
  17%Logical (Your least dominant characteristic)

Your Right Brain Percentages
  36%Fantasy-oriented (Your most dominant characteristic)
  34%Intuitive
  32%Nonverbal
  28%Random
  28%Concrete
  12%Holistic (Your least dominant characteristic)

7 deadly sins

I have seen the 7 deadly sins as sources of inspiration for many things, and designs for wine glasses seems just appropriate. Wine seems to fit. I think these designs were really cool. They look good together as a set and still individually represent each sin well.

Beds

This is really interesting to me. I like furniture design. When I a kid, I always wanted a hammock for a bed so my favorite ones are the ones that swing.

Storm Troopers

Haha, once again this may not have a lot of educational merit but because of my dinner party and the fact that this is a pretty fun idea I had to post it.

http://www.stumbleupon.com/s/#77Mxqg/wildammo.com/2009/08/09/what-stormtroopers-do-on-their-day-off//

oh the joy of stick figures animated

I am still stumbling and still easily amused. So when I find something that makes me laugh, I post it here. my sole reason for doing this is because I put random in this blogs title, so random it shall be. I sure I will stumble upon some useful design things sooner or later but until then enjoy this:

More Random Stumble Fun

This really has no purpose other than it is super cool. I could be distracted by it for hours and oh yeah, there are pretty colors.

http://www.stumbleupon.com/s/#4gN8sC/www.zigzagphilosophy.com//

It took me a second . . . ha ha pun intended

But seriously, this is really cool. At first I wasn't sure what it was and I start clicking on it. First let me say that this is the beginning of my adventures with stumbling and some pretty random things have been popping up. Anyway, the design of this is really cool. It reminds of the word webs we had to at the beginning of the year.

By now you are probably curious of what this actually is so follow this link and check it out:

yay! next blog

So ever since I read Rachel's post about clicking the next blog link, I have been randomly trying it and seeing what comes up. Today I got lucky. Here is a link to a photoshop tutorial blog: http://photoplustutorials.blogspot.com/?expref=next-blog

Photoshop Meeting Review

I am trying to get photoshop club up and running again.

We hosted a meeting tonight at 8:00 pm. We were going to have pizza. I ordered online at 7:15 and it is supposed to take forty minutes for delivery. The pizza got delivered at 8:35.

While I waited for the pizza, Austin taught everyone a cool lightning tutorial and also some techniques using the pen tool.

While eating our pizza we discussed plans for next semester. We are interested in visiting some businesses that rely on photoshop in Milwaukee. We also discussed our service project. Austin has been working on designs for the Winter Dinner Dance publicity and we want to see if this will count as a service project.

Our next meeting is going to be on Dec 2nd at 8:00. Melanie Brotz will be leading a tutorial.

Design Intern

If you have not seen already, there are posters up in the cfa advertising a position for a design intern at Stritch. There is one located by the bathroom and another by the mac lab, room 135.

Camping out in the Mac Lab

Its not easy not having a laptop with photoshop and all the other programs necesary for graphic design. However, I still get my work done on time. If anyone needs me this weekend I will be camping out in the mac lab.

For next semester though, I think it is necesary that I purchase a laptop. I was planning on getting a macbook pro and have been doing some price comparisons. I found this website that list different prices from different places: http://www.pcprices.net/macbookpro.shtml

If anyone would like to share where they got their laptop, that would be helpful too.

For now though, I shall return to the cfa.

Some of these overlap . . .

I know some of these overlap with the last photoshop fakes that I posted but I knew I had to post this because of the George W. Bush picture. It is hilarious.

More Fun

I am also entertaind by looking at images where people kind of messed up the photoshop. This links has a lot of where people made a cut out but left and extra hand on the shoulder or something.

Fruits and Animals follow-up

I continued clicking through the series after I posted the link. I have some problems with the root frog image. First of all, the leaves of the plant are carrot leaves and the part that attaches to the "root frog" is from a beet plant. The frog looks like it is supposed to be some kind of potatoe but its perspective is off compared to the stem. The right arm also looks very awkward to me.

This image surprised me. It just doesn't seem to have as much precision as the other ones.

Photoshop Speech

I recently did a speech on Photoshop and Stritch.psd for my Oral Communications class. To get people interested I found this really neat picture of a frog combined with an orange in photoshop.

Here is a link to the site with this frog image: http://www.welaf.com/vc_gallery/sickfruits/

I really like this series. They are a lot of fun. My favorite is the strawberry.

Another Shameless Photoshop club Plug

Everyone has been really busy for the past month or if your like me, then since classes started. However I would just like to make a note that Stritch.psd, the Stritch Photoshop Club will be having a meeting on Wednesday, November 18th at 8:00 pm in the Mac Lab, room 218.

This will be a fun, short meeting. It is a nice study break to learn some cool photoshop tricks.

Hope to see you there!

Funny Story

I was talking to Rachel in Clare Hall about the Dinner Party project. I have been joking about being a nerd - for example Jessica's facebook status: Cathy is a nerd - for doing my dinner party on Star Trek and Star Wars. It is pretty nerdy. I am willing to admit this. Rachel told me, "It's okay. I like Star Wars." So automatically I replied back to her, "That's good. And I like Serial Killers."

It didnt quite work the same way as Rachel comment.

Stritch Olympics

I created this logo for the Stritch Olympics this year. We also had it printed on t-shirts and posters.
