Enviormental Lettering

For my Enviormental Letter Project, I placed it out in the parking lot on a handicap parking space. I know this brought up a lot of issues of how handicap people are perceived. I was aware that people could possibly be offended by it too and that worried me a little bit. The main idea that I wanted to get across in this project by placing the word different was that being different made you separate or isolated. That idea is my reasoning for my angle and line of cars in the background. All the parking lots are full except the handicap ones. I agree with the suggestions made in class about fixing the photo. If the letters were darker it would be a stronger image.

Mountain Dew

Melissa Webb let me know about this site. You can design your own mountain dew can. They also have featured artists. My favorite one is UPSO; the can design is the one with eyes.

Photoshop Club

Last year I started Stritch.psd, a photoshop club for stritch students who just want to have fun and learn different things related to photoshop. Thought I would post it here to see if anyone in the class was interested in joining.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, the 23rd of September at 7:00 pm in the mac lab, room 218. We start off every meeting with a tutorial and it is a lot of fun. Hope to see everyone there!

Overview of Class to date

With one project done, one near completion and another underway, I have to say I am really enjoying this class.

It was pretty cool to see what everyone came up with for the homonym projects. Everyone had very unique ways of interpreting it and presenting their final result. I think my biggest challenge in the project was lining everything up to get that really detailed, scientific feel. Overall, I liked my final design. I think it would be really to do more and repeat it until it was like six feet tall as was suggested in the critique.

The word project is going well too. In the work in progress critique today, I liked seeing the different sizes of font that people used. For example, some people repeated the word repetition in really big letters to fill the page and this had a very different effect than people who used a much smaller font size and did the same process.

I really like the new project. I have to say I think it would be really funny if the person who has the word luxury would put it on a toilet. It is something we take for granted but really is a luxury. Walking into the bathroom and seeing that word would really make me laugh. For my word, Different, I am thinking about putting on something that is repeated over and over again and appears to be the same. For example if I put it on one brick in a row of bricks, people would hopefully look at it and think, "What makes that brick different than the other ones." Then they can ponder that idea for a while.
